Last night I finally attended a zoom-based figure study session. Quarantined for nearly a year, it took until day 356 to practice what I preach by drawing from a live model. Well, a live model on camera. My goal is to attend every Wednesday and sometimes on Saturday. If you are serious about improving, no practice will help you grow faster than figure study. The human form is the most challenging subject to undertake. Our eyes are trained to laser in on errors in portraiture. There is no escaping the human ability to identify an artist’s lack of understanding of anatomy. Building an écorché model changed my career trajectory ten years ago, and I’d like to try my hand at that again, too. There is no artistic ceiling, no limit on improvement concerning figurative art. Pictured is the result from last night’s session. There will be more to come!
