What is a Haunted Dolly Pumpkin, you ask? Years ago, a creative mother of two built a dollhouse for her children. Special care was taken to choose the perfect floral wallpaper. She even designed a teeny-tiny set of spiraling stairs. The little wood and paper house was so homie and cozy that a lost spirit was called to it. When he floated toward the front door, he saw an itty bitty pumpkin toy carved as a jack-o’-lantern resting on the porch.

“I could rest here for the night,” thought the lonely spirit, so he did (inside the crafted jack-o’-lantern). His spooky snores were noisy enough to wake the ghost inhabiting a scarecrow down the old country road. And yes, ghosts do sleep, if you were wondering. The scarecrow ghost was bored staring at the fields all day, so he left to search for the slumbering spirit.

After a long night of snooping in tree trunks and peeking under logs, what a surprise! “Is that an itty bitty pumpkin snoring?” he pondered. There were several autumnal carvings to choose from; one had a button for an eye and yarn for hair. “Not such a bad look for me,” thought the scarecrow’s former inhabitant, “ I think I’ll stay here with the little tike for a while.” By early morning, the lively dollhouse pumpkins were awake and chatting, which could be heard in the rose garden.

Roses are a special favorite of spirits. A kind-hearted soul was residing between the bushes for quite some time now, and she wanted to see what all the commotion was about, so she peered in the window and found Button and Baby Bo happy in their new home. She inquired, “Hello, my name is Briar. May I stay for a while?” Naturally, Button and Bo joyfully greeted Briar and pointed her to a pretty blue winter squash that truly fit her style. What a charming day to meet two new friends by breakfast!

And so it went, ghost after ghost, heard the petite party brewing at the little dollhouse in the window, and began to congregate, for spirits can be quite loud and do love company. A whole family of dolly pumpkins formed this way, and they still haunt their lovely dollhouse to this day.
