Blue light glasses — snake oil or savior? Blue light-blocking eyewear is trending. There isn’t a wealth of research available to evaluate effectiveness. According to AAO, blue light emanating from digital devices does not result in eye disease or eyestrain. The overuse of digital devices is to blame.
As a creative, I work nine to fourteen hours daily. A few years ago, I developed debilitating migraines. While I barely needed a prescription (mostly just a bit of help reading distant road signs), the eye doctor advised I order a blue-light-blocking coating. Lately, I slap on a cuter pair of nonprescription blue light glasses first thing in the morning before I crack open the laptop (much like one would sport sunglasses outside). No more migraines. No blurry vision. Do they work? Even if it is a placebo, I am not going back!
